Shai Maestro: 5:30pm-6:30pm
“Hearing Shai Maestro is like awakening to a new world: a world of wonders, excitement, beauty, and uncertainty. Sounds of intrigue, expressions of joy, introspective thoughts, and heightened intensity.” - Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz. Born in Israel, Maestro relocated to New York, where he currently resides. He performs and records around the globe with international artists such as John Patitucci, Theo Bleckmann, Jorge Rossy, Mark Guiliana, Donny McCaslin, Ben Wendel, Anat Cohen and Marcus Gilmore to name a few.
Sergio Galvao: 7:00pm-8:00pm
A remarkably gifted saxophonist/composer and in-demand session player making his recording debut as a leader at age 48, Brazilian Sérgio Galvão is a talent worthy of wider recognition beyond his home base in Rio de Janeiro. He is heavily influenced by Brazilian jazz saxophonist Victor Assis Brasil and John Coltrane. Produced by Brazilian bassist/composer Amanda Ruzza, who currently resides in New York, his album Phantom Fish is a showcase for Galvão’s engaging tunes and potent playing on tenor and soprano saxes.
Hiatus Kaiyote (Headliner): 9:00pm-10:30pm
Hiatus Kaiyote is a future-soul seven piece that formed in Melbourne in 2011. The members are Naomi “Nai Palm” Saalfield (vocals, guitar), Paul Bender (bass), Simon Mavin (keyboards) and Perrin Moss(drums, percussion) with three special guests. Hiatus Kaiyote have carved an alluring and unique world with their blend of captivating lyricism and emotive soundscapes. Hiatus Kaiyote’s music is less a genre than an immersive experience - a trip. They headline Saturday’s performances for the Perth International Jazz Festival.
